Wednesday Night Bible Study - Notes - A Study In Revelation Lesson 29 - The Church Of Pergamos P10

TEXT: Revelation 2:12-17, Exodus 16:1, John 6:27, John 6:48-58

Revelation 2:12-17

12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; these things saith he which hath the harp sword with two edges;

13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.

14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

15 So has thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; tTo him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Exodus 16:1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the Children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the Fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

2 And the whole congregation of the Children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: (If we murmur against God's man or woman, we have, in effect, murmured against God.)

3 And the Children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full for you have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from Heaven for you and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day

  1. The Hidden Manna

  2. Speaks of Jesus as The Bread of Life

  3. John 6 Speaks Of This Discourse And Alludes To The Manna IN The Wilderness That Israel Received as Provision - Yet Perished

  4. In Christ Is Our ALL! A. Justification B. Sanctification C. Redemption D. Grace E Deliverance from sin F. Reconciler G. Mediator H. Perfecter I. LORD!

Christ imparts himself to his people through the Holy Spirit and as the LIVING WORD

John 6:27

27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

John 6:48-58

48 I am that bread of life.

49 Your fathers did eat mana in the wilderness, and are dead.

50 This is the bread with cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, how can this man give us his flesh to eat?

53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

The White Stone

  1. Refers to the final justification and purification at the coming day

  2. Ancient custom of expressing a verdict upon him arraigned IN court with two stone

  3. A white and a black stone - each one of the jury members would be given a white and black stone

  4. In case one deemed accused guilty they would cast the black stone in a vessel; if innocent, the white one

  5. Justification or condemnation were two choices cast by stones

  6. Consequently the white stone for the believer is justification which means we need not fea the one with the sword in his mouth if true!

A New Name Written

  1. We shall receive a new name in glory

  2. In Christ we possess a new name of glory IN HIM

  3. Our sinful nature hides that new nature and it hardly manifest!

  4. In that coming day (Resurrection/Rapture) We shall shine forth with the new nature and a new name!

  5. Our individual personalities will remain intact in heaven but emphasized to Perfection

  6. Each saint will know his own name only (Judgement seat of Christ)

  7. The image of God will shine through in perfect holiness, beauty and glory radiating from the lord Jesus Christ

  8. What was lost in the fall (the image and likeness of God) will be regained at the Resurrection

  9. IN CHRIST we have that tonight if we will allow Him to produce that glory IN us!

  10. Whatever the name IT will never override the NAME that IS above EVERY name!
