Sunday PM Meeting Time - The Cross, The Holy Spirit, And Our Faith - 06/12

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

Text: Romans 8:1-2, 1 John 5:4-6

Romans 8:1-3 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

1 John 5:4-6 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the son of God? 6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

I. The Holy Spirit and the Cross

  1. Jesus Christ is the SOURCE of all things we receive from God - He accomplished this at the Cross

  2. The Cross is the MEANS by which these are given

  3. The Cross must be the object of faith - NOT WORKS, RELIGION or SELF - SELF is the most dangerous of all three and deadly

  4. The Holy Spirit ANOINTS ALL OF THIS! (Romans 8:2, 10-11; Ephs. 2:13-18)

II. The Law of Sin and Death

  1. Two most powerful laws in the universe

  2. If the believer attempts to live for God by any manner other than FAITH in what Christ did at the Cross, They will Fail

  3. In Christ, we have victory; in SELF we FAIL; in Religion, we FAIL, in movements, WE FAIL

  4. Those under law had only WILL POWER and no matter how hard they tried they could never keep the law of God

  5. The Holy Spirit does not anoint will power or self effort - we cannot help ourselves!

  6. God SENT HIS SON! - MAN NEEDED AND NEEDS A REDEEMER, A SAVIOR!

  7. Condemned Sin IN THE FLESH - Christ came as MAN, IN THE FLESH, Characterized as Sin, YET HE WAS SINLESS (HEB 7:26)

  8. He destroyed the power of SIN IN THE FLESH! - by giving his perfect body as a sacrifice FOR SIN, which made possible for sin to be destroyed in our flesh! - AL THROUGHT THE CROSS.

Hebrews 7:26 26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
