Text: Hebrews 11:9-10
Hebrews 11:9-10 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and make is God.
Hebrews 11:13-16 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
Titus 2:11-15 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
II. We are LOOKING for another country, another city!
Hebrews 11:9-10 speaks of Abraham sojourning in a strange country.
Though heirs they dwelt in Tabernacles as a "alien resident"
This earth is NOT our home! That is why the Kingdom NOW theology is false in its pursuit and philosophy.
As Abraham knew all of this would lead to something, so should we!
We LOOK to a CITY with foundations, and BUILDER and MAKER is God
This speaks of Christ - who is the great architect of all mankind - physical creation and moral creation. Col. 1:15-18, Eph, 3:9, 1 John 1:3
Hebrews 11:13-16 - Some died in faith not seeing the Promise fulfilled but seeing them "afar off" but were PERSAUDED of such things
They CONFESSED they were PILGRIMS and STRANGERS
For they who SAY SUCH THINGS DECLARE - They SEEK A COUNTRY - It's not an earthly country but a heavenly one
They didn't look back - the TRUE BELIEVER OF FAITH does not either
God "HAS ALREADY" prepared a Country for those of true faith
We commend ourselves to God THROUGH FAITH!
Jesus saves
Jesus heals
Jesus delivers
Jesus baptizes in the Holy Ghost
Jesus is coming again
ALL DOCTRINE CENTERS ON THE CROSS
Revelation 21:14- And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
Acts 2:42 - And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Simon, whom He also named Peter, Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip; Bartholomew; Matthew; Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus; Simon who was called the Zealot; Judas the son of James, Paul (Matthias - Man's choice - Paul God's choice)
III. The Church is LOOKING for a BLESSED HOPE
The grace of God HAS APPEARED- THROUGH CHRIST the AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF FAITH, Heaven being our DESTINY
The grace of God teaches: A) Denying Ungodliness and Wordly Lusts B) Live Soberly C) Righteously D) Godly
Can only be done through Christ! The Holy Spirit
Looking for that blessed HOPE!
The Rapture is the blessed hope of the church
It is where our FAITH IS FINISHED! (Dead and Alive)
Dead in Christ will Arise FIRST, We which are alive second
The Rapture COMPLETES the salvation process
Justified, Sanctified and GLORIFIED
