Sunday AM Service - The Priestly Order Of Aaron Part 2 - The Calling And The Cleansing 12/12/2021

Text: Leviticus 8:1-6; Exodus 28:1, 29:4

  1. There are three priesthoods mentioned in the Old Covenant

A. The Aaronic priesthood - Exodus 28-29, 39-40, Leviticus 8-10 had a start and an ending yet a type of Christ

B. The Zadok priesthood - In 1 Chronicles 16:39 Zadok is named as the leader of the priests who served "before the tabernacle of the Lord at the high place that was at Gibeon" - he served David and Solomon in building the temple - had

C. The Melchizedek priesthood - Genesis 14, Hebrews 10:4, Psalms 110:4 - Had no start and has no ending in Christ

2. To understand the Zadok and Melchizedek priesthoods one must understand the original priesthood of the tabernacle

3. 7. All priests including Aaron the great high priest were all:

A. Were called by God - Exodus 28:1

B. Were to be cleansed - Exodus 29:4

C. Were to be clothed - Exodus 29:5-6

D. Were to be consecrated - Exodus 29:9

E. Were to be commissioned - Leviticus

F. Were to be compassionate- Hebrew 5:1-3

4. In Exodus 25-30 God gave Moses the instructions of the priesthood in the mount relating to the CALL; In Exodus 39 these things were carried out; Leviticus 8-10 gives the COMMISSION and CONSECRATION of the priest

5. The book of Leviticus has three things as its subject relating to the tabernacle of Moses:

A. The sacrifices (Five Levitical Offerings)

B. A priest

C. A place of worship

6. The sinner needs a sacrifice, the worshipper believer needs a priest - Christ is BOTH!

7. Sacrifice IS THE FOUNDATION FOR ALL PRIESTLY MINISTRY! - Leviticus 8-2 - ALL POINT TO CHRIST AND CHRIST ALONE!

8. Leviticus 10:8-11 speaks of regulations and statutes that God ordained the priests to walk in

9. These were to put a difference between the HOLY and the UNHOLY, the UNCLEAN and the CLEAN

10. Without a proper understanding of the cross it is IMPOSSIBLE to discern the difference (Galatians 2:20-21 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.)

11. The cleansed priest was ordained by God to TEACH the law of Moses to Israel; the ordained believer TO the five fold ministry gift has been called to do the same (Ephesians 4:11-12 and he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ)
