Sunday AM Service - "That I May Thrust Out Your Right Eye"
1/9/2022
Text: 1 Samuel 11:1-8
The Ammomites were old enemies of the Israelites,
They alleged Israel had taken possession of territory east of the Jordan which rightfully belonged to them [Judg. 11:13].
After their defeat by Jephthah, their power was broken; A century had elapsed before they asserted their claim
Jabesh - Gilead was a city on the eastern side of Jordan from the tribe of Manasseh.
It's name means "Hill of Witnessing"
Satan is an "OLD ENEMY" of our souls; He asserts his power over out lives (Even after victory he comes back)
He attacks the WITNESS of our souls!
Acts 1:8 - You shall b WITNESSES!
"Nahash" mans "Bright shining serpant"
"Jabesh - Gilead" means "Hill of witnessing."
Satan ALWAYS seeks to destroy the power of our WITNESS - Which is destroy the power of the Holy Spirit (TIED TO FAITH IN WHAT CHRIST DID AT THE CROSS)
If we make a "covenant" with him, even as "the men of Jabesh" tried to do, our witness will be destroyed
NO covenant - of ANY type can be made with Satan
The covenant Nahash made with Israel is one Satan is making with church - "That I may thrust out your right eye"
Men in those days fought behind a shield, with the top covering their face with the exception of their RIGHT EYE. That being put out, they could not see to fight; consequently, they would be a reproach. The result? They made slaves out of them all their days.
Regrettably, most of the modern church little sees how to fight, because their right eye has been blinded.
They have made a covenant with Satan, which means they are preaching everything except "Jesus Christ and him Crucified" [I Cor. 1:23].
Messengers were sent to Saul telling of their fate. When he heard the Spirit of God came upon him, and he assured the men of Jabesh they would have immediate help
HELP IS on THE way to the modern church!
The only answer to Satan is the "spirit of God" who works ONLY in the framework of the finished work of Christ
Saul was angry, and believers today should likewise be angry at the threats of the Devil - not making covenant with because their right eyes have been thrust out
Reasons why our eyes are thrust out:
A. Greed
B. Ignorance
C. Compromise
D. Sin
E. Fear
