Sunday AM Service - Palm Sunday! - "Behold Your King Cometh"

4/10/2022

Text: Zechariah 9:9. Matthew 21:5

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Matthew 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

Matthew 27:22-23 Pilate saith unto the, What shall i do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

  1. The Jews rejected Jesus because he failed, in their eyes, to do what they expected their messiah to do

  2. They expected Christ (including the 12, Judas) to destroy evil and their enemies

  3. To establish Israel as the preeminent nation in the world

  4. The prophecies of Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22 described a suffering messiah who would be persecuted and killed

  5. The Jews chose then and today to focus on the prophecies that discuss his glorious victories - NOT his crucifixion!

  6. The true church recognizes the TRUE CHRIST!

  7. The Jews believed that the messiah, the prophet which Moses spoke about would come and deliver them from Roman bondage.

  8. They didn't recognize he came to save MANKIND from his spiritual bondage! (AT THE CROSS)

  9. Two of the disciples, James and John, even asked to sit at Jesus' right and left in His kingdom when He came into His glory.

  10. They shouted praises to God for the mighty works they had seen Jesus do and called out, "Hosanna, save us," when he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey (Matthew 21:9). They treated Him like a conquering king.

  11. Then, when He allowed himself to be arrested, tried, and crucified on a cursed cross, the people stopped believing that He was the promised prophet.

  12. They rejected their Messiah (Matthew 27:22).

  13. Paul tells the church that the spiritual blindness of Israel is a "mystery" that had not previously been revealed (Romans chapters 9-11).

  14. For thousands of years, Israel had been the one nation that looked to God while the Gentile nations generally rejected the light and chose to live in spiritual darkness

  15. As Paul explained, this hardening on the part of Israel led to the blessing of the Gentiles who would believe in Jesus and accept Him as Lord and Savior.

  16. The Church has gone blind looking for same type of "JESUS"

The Blindness of the Jews

(1) They believe Jesus did not fulfill the Messianic prophecies (Isaiah 2:1-4, 32:15-18, 60:15-18; Zephaniah 3:9; Hosea 2:20; Amos 9:13-15; Micah 4:1-4; Zechariah 8:23, 14:9; Jeremiah 31:33-34)

In The Jewish Mindset Four Things Their Messiah Will Do:

A. Build the third temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28).

B. Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6).

C. Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4)

D. Spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. As it says: "God will be King over all the world - on that day, God will be One and His Name will be One" (Zechariah 14:9).

They Deny

A. Virgin birth

B. Suffering servant Christianity claims that Isaiah chapter 53 refers to Jesus, as the "suffering servant." In actuality, Isaiah 53 directly follows the theme of chapter 52,

C. Jewish belief is based solely on national revelation throughout history

2. The Messiah will become the greatest prophet in history, second only Moses. (Targum - Isaiah 11:2; Maimonides - Teshuva 9:2)

JESUS IS GREATER THAN MOSES! The Church elevates the prophet above Christ today

B. Israel's Future Judgement IS Ahead

  1. "His blood be on us, and on our children" The Jews quickly assumed full responsibility for his death:

  2. We accept the punishment for such a crime; let it be upon us and upon our children.

  3. They were visited with the same kind of punishment and worse, for the Romans crucified them in such numbers that there were no more crosses or place for them (Lk. 21:20-24).

  4. As many as 500 a day were scourged and crucified. Their children for ages have gone through untold sufferings in all lands.

  5. They are yet to suffer the greatest time of tribulation that has ever been on earth or ever will be (Mt. 24:15-22; Rev. 6:1 - Rev. 19:21; Dan. 11:40-45; 12:1; Jer. 30:3-9; Ezek. 20:33-38; Zech. 13:9; 14:1-5).

  1. Jacob's Trouble - Jeremiah 30:7

  2. Israel's Travail - 1 Thes. 5:1-5

  3. Danial's 70th Week - Daniel 9:24-27

  4. The Great Tribulation - Matthew 24:21

  5. The Days of Vengeance - Luke 21-22

How many prophecies of Jesus are in the New Testament? What if He was Messiah prophesied? After all, Jesus (Yeshua in Hebrew) fulfilled not just the 48 specifically Messianic prophecies. In fact, He fulfilled more than 324 individual prophecies that related to the Messiah!

  1. Israel looked for a political savior, so has the church

  2. Israel praised the political, crucified the suffering servant

  3. Israel failed to see their need of a savior

  4. Israel and the Church are blind for same reason - unbelief

  5. Israel stumbled over Christ's REAL mission - The Cross (1 Cor. 1:18-19)

  6. Israel puts their faith in the Torah, NOT THE CHRIST of the Torah

  7. Israel rejected the one who came in the name of his father

  8. They will receive one who comes in his own name!

John 5:43-44 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. How can ye believe, which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that cometh from God only?

2 Corinthians 11:3-4 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted ye might well bear with him.
