Sunday AM Meeting Time - Looking Unto Jesus, Author/Finisher Of Our Faith - 07/10

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

Text: Hebrews 12:1-3

Hebrews 12:1-3 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

I. Jesus is the AUTHOR and FINISHER of our Faith!

  1. The Kingdom of God is based upon Faith; Without FAITH it is impossible to please God

  2. THE FAITH speaks of Faith in the Cross - Where TRUE faith begins (AUTHOR)

  3. Once we're saved the Holy Spirit begins a work in us that He alone can finish!

  4. This walk of faith begins with CHRIST and ends with CHRIST!

  5. Running the Race is tied to what one believes. - Galatians 5:6-8

  6. The ones Paul spoke to were zealously attached to the truths of the Gospel;

  7. They embraced GRACE and its proper object - the CROSS!

  8. They majored in the knowledge of divine things, and ran with cheerfulness and without weariness in the ways of Christ,

  9. Paul likened this runners in a race (I Corinthians 9:24)

  10. They were hindered by false apostles, prophets and teachers! That is the case always when we are hindered in this race.

Galatians 5:5-7 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availed any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?

1 Corinthians 9:24-26 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
