Sunday AM Service - Even If One Comes Back From The Dead

Text: Luke 16:19-31
Luke 16:19-31 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the top of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham aid, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then he said, i pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
The Jews of Jesus day concluded that riches were the favor of God; Poverty was the curse of God - same as how they felt about crucifixion (Deut., Gal. 3:13)
This story of Christ ripped to shreds their false doctrine
Jesus uses NAMES in this illustration meaning it's not a parable, it actually happened and it's happening to millions today
The rich man saw Lazarus constantly and offered NO HELP whatsoever; such concluded Lazarus cursed by God
To help Lazarus in his sick theology such would be thwarting the plan of God; the word of God is twisted the same way today
The rich man felt good giving Lazarus crumbs that the beggar had to beg for
Lazarus was not only poverty stricken but sick; he would not fit the mold of the modern gospel of prosperity millions are under the spell of today
The beggar fit God's mold! The rich man fit the Pharisees mold
Both died as will ALL who are alive at this moment. IT IS APPOINTED UNTO MEN ONCE TO DIE...THEN
No one cared the beggar died, all cared the rich man died on earth; in heaven we see the reality of how the Lord cared.
All believers before the cross went to paradise; when we died, our souls and spirits are escorted by angels into the presence of god
No angels carried the beggar for he died eternally lost; his riches had nothing TO do with his soul or salvation
Jesus proclaims the DOCTRINE of eternal hell here telling us the soul and spirit go to EITHER heaven or hell
The soul and spirit are ETERNALLY CONSCIOUS
He gives us insight into the spirit realm OF hell here (He spoke more of hell than he did heaven)
The Rich man didn't die lost because he was rich, Lazarus didn't go to heaven because HE was poor
The rich man didn't allow his blessings to bring him closer to the Lord; Lazarus didn't allow his poverty to keep him from the Lord
The Word "NOW" is after death for all - and it's ETERNAL
"Great Gulf" - Heart of the earth A. Before the cross Satan held the OT saints captives with him hoping ultimately he could get them to the burning side or PIT (Ephesians 4:8-9) B. The blood of bull and goats could not take away sins, Satan still had a claim
The altar call of salvation - ALL Of THEM - Are on THIS SIDE of the GRACE here is not purgatory which is a fool's hope.
16:28 Proclaims the rich man had a working knowledge of God and more than likely professed Salvation on Earth!
He never asked for Grace for himself; the inhabitants of hell know that it's easy TO step into Hell, impossible to step out
Abraham pointed him to the WORD - the OLD COVENANT contains MOSES and the PROPHETS; we have the entirety of God's word today!
A returned spirit cannot add anything TO what God has already said in his word today!
If man will not heed the Bible, Even one from the dead won't matter; Jesus did raise another man named Lazarus from the dead and the religious sought to put him to death!
Jesus makes it clear eternal matters MATTER - and that's ALL THAT MATTERS!
Every one who has ever lived has gone to either heaven or hell - no exceptions
Christ alone is the door TO heaven - all others "doors" lead to Hell!
I. The Place of Hell
A. It's a place of torment (Luke 16:23)
B. There are no unbelievers in Hell
C. There is no salvation in Hell
D. There is no MERCY in hell
E. There is memory in hell - "Remember"
G. There is no water there
H. Fires are literal, not figurative
Psalm 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
2 Thessalonians 1:9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
Matthew 13:50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Mark 9:43-44 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
Proverbs 15:24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
Proverbs 23:14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
